As most of us are aware, the year 2002 has presented many challenges for the technology sector. This has been brought on in part by the hangover from the burst Internet bubble in 2000 coupled by the large layoffs from various technology firms caused by the slow-down in the US economy.
The slow-down within the technology sector while hurting the earnings of technology firms, may actually be an opportunity for other sectors. Over the past 12 months, the technology sector has seen the cost for hardware and technology services drop in light of this increased competition. How can you take advantage of this? Recently there has been a strong push by leading web developers to get things ship-shape. This means writing code that conforms to the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3) recommendations. Want to know more, then read my column "Web Standards not an Oxymoron" - IT World April 10, 2002

Key features include support for HTML rich e-mails, integration to numerous databases and the ability to send test/approval e-mails.

If you're looking for a package to help you manage and clean-up all those digital pictures, look no further then the soon to be released Adobe "Photoshop Elements 2.0". We've just finished our evaluation of the beta version and this feature rich product is perfect for home or general office use with an estimated street prices of $150 CDN ($99 USD). Photoshop Elements 2.0 should be available at your favourite software retailer early this fall or it can be preorder on-line at Adobe.com
We are currently reviewing the latest version of Adobe's "GoLive" (version 6.0). This tool promises to support collaborative development and generate compliant code. Our preliminary test show that the code is compliant. We are only in the very early stages of evaluation, but so far things are looking good as GoLive was able to generate valid XHTML (the next generation of HTML) code. Due to the rich features of this product, GoLive is well suited for the established web developer(s) and it is not a hobbiest's tool. If you would like to see our final review of GoLive, please e-mail us at answers@knechtology.com and we'll be happy to send it to you once we've completed our review.
